Allison Renee Ritter, an award-winning artist, is a New Jersey resident, graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, and was a student in the school’s Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) program. By day, she works in marketing; in the evening, she creates a unique art form – abstract organic shapes that, to some viewers, resemble scientific or medical drawings. Each piece takes on an unusual presence, with distinct contours and shapes that provoke thought, making every piece, a conversational piece.

Allison produces her organic art using several medias: pencil, charcoal, oil paints, and the computer to create digital renderings. The individual pieces range from 3” x 3” to 30” x 32” in size and can be customized to meet her client’s needs. She began creating these unique images while drawing in her sketchbook during her classes in college. Her drawings initially started from small pencil studies that were about 2” x 2”. Allison’s professor saw these drawings and suggested a visit to a biology library for some research. She studied medical books and microscopic images of cells that related to her sketches. After several hours in the library, she was inspired and began creating her unique designs. All of her drawings started out extremely small, reminiscent of miniature studies. Once her work was critiqued by her fellow classmates, she was asked to bring her studies to life...they wanted her to draw them at large scale. Intimidated by this, Allison went home and thought about what she was asked to do for her next class. Reluctant, she began drawing a new form at 22” x 30”. When it was complete, she knew she had found her niche. Allison was so inspired by the outcome of her drawing that she began to work on a second one. From there, Allison continued to create new forms using pencil and charcoal and even adding tea to stain the paper to give it a unique texture. Wanting to add color to her pieces, she began to use the computer to create digital computer drawings. These unique creations are hand drawn on the computer creating its own mystery; allowing viewers to draw on their own interpretation of the piece.

Allison continues to discover new ways to create unique work that will develop into future conversational pieces. Allison has been showing her work in bookstores, galleries, and several art shows throughout Cincinnati and New Jersey.
